NOAA record 5178186 ↗Finally some decent snow in the mountains, as a storm dropped 6 inches on Snowbird with 8-10 inches on top of the tram. Sundance reported 12 inches on top of the mountain.
NOAA record 5724317 ↗A backcountry skier triggered a late spring avalanche in Little Cottonwood Canyon that was approximately 60 feet wide and 300 feet long. Twelve people were caught in the avalanche, with 3 buried (father and 2 sons) up to their chests. One of the sons broke free and managed to dig his father and brother out. The only injury was to the younger son buried the deepest who sustained a slight leg injury
NOAA record 5686915 ↗The same conditions that brought damaging downslope winds to the Wasatch Front, produced an upslope snow event along the eastern slopes and at some ski resorts. Alta picked up a fluffy 20 inches, with Snowbird reporting 17 inches. Other snow amounts included 12 inches at Tony Grove, 10 inches at Monte Cristo, 7 inches in Randolph and Hatch, and 6 inches in Laketown.
NOAA record 5686832 ↗Strong south winds blew ahead of an approaching cold front. Many mountain locations reported gusts in excess of 60 mph. The strongest gusts were 91 mph (79 kts) at Snowbird Hidden Peak, 79 mph (69 kts) at Alta Baldy, 72 mph (63 kts) at Sundance Arrowhead, and 65 mph (56 kts) at Vernon Hill.
