This was associated with a passing thunderstorm that also produced a wind gust to 48 mph at the KVEL ASOS at Vernal Airport, on the other side of town. No reports of damages, injuries, or fatalities were received.
NOAA record 1295200 βAt 1322 MST on September 16, a trained spotter reported 1 inch diameter hail 9 miles ESE of Whiterocks, Utah.
NOAA record 1295653 βA strong thunderstorm over the Eastern Uinta Mountains produced outflow winds up to 59 mph, which was a measured peak wind gust at the Vernal Regional Airport at 1444 MST.
